Prof. Dr. Jan Bonhoeffer

I am a physician and professor with many years of experience in clinical practice, research, and teaching. Over the course of my career, it has become increasingly clear to me that medical excellence alone is not sufficient to sustainably support people. Health emerges where professional expertise, human connection, and genuine care come together.

In my work, I focus on meeting people in their individual life situations and creating a space in which trust, self-awareness, and inner orientation can develop. I combine the insights of evidence-based medicine with a heart-oriented, relationship-based approach – not as a method, but as a fundamental understanding of medicine.

As a co-founder of the Heart-Based Center, I bring this perspective into a multiprofessional environment where medical, psychological, and human perspectives work together. The Center is a place for people who wish to pause, gain clarity, and find renewed strength for their onward journey.

Prof. Dr. med. Jan Bonhoeffer is Professor of Pediatrics at the University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB), an author, and a regular columnist for Psychology Today, where he writes about emotional well-being, relationships, and humanity in healthcare.
